Avonhead Vets is the culmination of a goal by Peter McLean to combine both Hyde Park and Avonhead Clinics into one new purpose-built small animal hospital.

The new clinic opened its doors in November 2008, offering the benefits of the latest in veterinary technology and superb facilities.

Peter is joined by a highly skilled team of vets and nurses, all committed to continuing education to bring the highest standard of knowledge and care for your pets.

Facilities

The clinic presents a warm, welcoming reception area, a display of premium food we believe best serves your pet’s nutritional needs, along with merchandise available for purchase accompanied by qualified advice.

The hospital facilities feature separate wards for out-feline and -canine patients, reducing stress during their stay. In-floor heating, heat pumps and ventilation systems make for a warm, cosy environment.

We have a full array of diagnostic equipment available on-site:

  • Blood Biochemistry analyser and Complete Blood Count (CBC) machine producing a full blood picture in less than 10 minutes.

Our laboratory facilities also provide:

  • Test for diabetes;
  • Feline Aid virus, Leukaemia and Guardia tests;
  • In-house urinalysis;
  • Microscopy – haematology/cytology/dermatology.

Our radiology unit allows fast diagnostic imaging within minutes, ready for veterinary interpretation.

Ultrasound is also available, providing moving real-time images allowing us to examine the insides of internal organs, diagnosing tumours, cardiac disorders, pregnancy and much more.

The fast turnaround diagnostic period allows more immediate efficient treatment for your pet.

Our sterile operating theatre is equipped for orthopaedic, elective and emergency surgery with positive air-flow ventilation, a modern anaesthetic machine and the latest in anaesthetic patient monitoring machine equipment; this including blood pressure, oxygen saturation, heart rate and temperature, with close monitoring at all times.

We have separate dental facilities allowing the best dental care for your pet, including dental scaling, polishing, extractions and pulpotomies.
