Our reception is the hub of our clinic, where our experienced staff can advise you on products we recommend to improve your pet’s health, make appointments, and help you with all requests. We will bend over backwards to help you, making sure every experience with us is positive and ensuring you’re happy to come back if needed!
Parasite Control
Internal Parasites (worms)
Unlike fleas which can be seen on your pet, intestinal worms are not easily visible, and are something you may usually not think about. A combination of regular treatment with a broad-spectrum wormer, good pet hygiene, and keeping your pet’s environment clean will ensure your pet stays healthy and worm free.
Worming regime:
- Kittens/Puppies → treat at 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks
- Adults → Treat every 3 months
- Breeding females → Treat during the mating period, during the gestation period and one week before due date. Treat every 3-4 weeks following birth.
Tablets that we use in-clinic are Drontal Allwormer & Endoguard Allwormer for both cats and dogs. For cats that prove difficult to administer a tablet to, we have a few different spot-on liquid treatments are available. Please note: we don’t have heart worm in New Zealand.
External Parasites (flea & tick)
Fleas are bloodsucking, wingless parasites that can’t fly; however, they can jump up to 34cm off the ground! This talent enables them to easily jump onto a dog, cat, rabbit or other animal. Fleas are like heat-seeking missiles that search out hosts. They can be found inside and outside! Unfortunately, they are an issue all year-round, not just over the warmer months.
We stock Advocate, Advantage, Bravecto, Broadline, and Frontline. Each treatment varies in duration, from 4 weeks to 6 months. Each product has advantages; please discuss which product is best suited for your pet with one of our staff.
Dietary Products
We often underestimate the importance of nutrition for ourselves and our pets. We understand each pet is different, and requires an individually-evaluated nutritional diet, which is best suited for them.
Great nutrients are essential through all life stages of your pet, from puppies and kittens to adults and onwards to senior years; in addition, with the correct nutrition we can prevent many health-related diseases and issues before they arise. For example, dental-focused diets can help maintain dental hygiene and avoid future problems.
We stock – and recommend – Hill’s Science Diet, Eukanuba, Royal Canin and Black Hawk. We stand by these products because we know they are made with the highest-quality ingredients. Their combination of ingredients promotes healthy muscle maintenance and immune system and helps with skin barriers, which are important for healthy skin and coat. Your pet’s food should be complete and balanced for their specific life stage requirements.
Prescription Diets
Along with our maintenance diets, we also stock prescription diets. These diets are veterinary-specific formula for those pets that have a pre-existing condition and/or developed conditions, such as (but not limited to):
- Renal (kidney) disease
- Hepatic (liver) disease
- Urinary complications
- Obesity
- Skin allergies
- Reactive digestive tract
- Diabetes
- Degenerative joints (osteoarthritis)
Prescription diets undergo extensive testing to prove their efficacy before reaching the market. Some of these diets have nutrient levels that are appropriate for treating certain diseases, but could be unsafe for healthy pets – one of our qualified staff will happily discuss which diet is best suited for your pet’s needs, and of maximum benefit for their health.
