Our experienced veterinarians offer knowledge, compassion, and expert treatment for your pet’s health and wellbeing.

We treat a wide range of sick and injured pets, from ear infections and skin allergies to cat fights, wounds, and other common health concerns. Whether your pet needs a routine check-up or help with a more urgent problem, our team is here to provide compassionate, high-quality veterinary care.

We recommend annual health checks and routine vaccinations to support your pet’s long-term health and wellbeing. Preventive veterinary care is key to early detection, helping us identify and manage potential health issues before they become more serious, keeping your pet healthier for longer.

Both of our consultation rooms use Adaptil and Feliway pheromone calming products to help reduce anxiety and create a calm, reassuring environment for patients. We are committed to low-stress veterinary care, always working at your pet’s pace and taking the time needed to ensure every visit is as comfortable as possible.

Consultations with our experienced veterinarians are available by appointment only.

Exports & Rabies Vaccines

Rabies Vaccinations and International Pet Travel Requirements

At Avonhead Veterinary Clinic, we have veterinarians approved by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) to issue export certificates for cats and dogs travelling to Australia. While our clinic is not an MPI-certified export facility, we can provide veterinary export certification support and advice. Clients will need to arrange a dedicated pet export service to manage the full travel process and import/export requirements.

We stock rabies vaccinations and can assist with preparing your pet for international travel, including export health requirements for dogs and cats leaving New Zealand.

For guidance on the pet export process or to discuss your pet’s travel needs, please contact our team or view our export information page. Call us on (03) 358 4407 to book an appointment.

Microchipping

Safe & Reliable Identification for Dogs and Cats

Microchipping is a safe and simple procedure where a tiny microchip, about the size of a grain of rice, is placed just under your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades. The procedure is quick and similar to a routine injection. Each microchip contains a unique identification number linked to your contact details on a national database, providing permanent identification that cannot be lost or removed. This greatly increases the chances of being reunited with your pet if they ever become lost.

Our team can register your pet’s microchip with the New Zealand Companion Animal Register (NZCAR) for a one-off $15 fee, helping ensure your pet’s details are securely recorded and up to date.
